West Lothian Golf Club: Airngath Course
The West Lothian Golf Club, founded in 1892, was originally laid out by Willie Park Jnr as a nine hole course. The course was
completely redesigned in 1975 by Fraser Middleton over an area of 148 acres. The new course was opened in 1979 and comprises 18 testing holes of golf which, with the skills of our Course Development Team, ensures our members and guests are never without a wee change to keep them keen.
Location with Spectacular Views
A challenging 6249 yards long and with a Par of 71 our course demands a thoughtful approach from the tee and a variety of hazards require your full focus throughout your round. We are situated on Airngath Hill between Linlithgow & Bo'ness on the A706. Our Club offers a championship standard
parkland golf course course in fantastic condition with unsurpassed views of the Forth estuary and beyond.
Feature Holes:
3rd Hole
The 3rd hole is played against the dramatic backdrop of the River Forth and Ochil Hills. A straight tee shot is essential to avoid hazards on both right and left. A small green demands skill to ensure the birdie putt and beware of going left with your approach as a water hazard on the left awaits the wayward shot.
8th Hole
Named on the score card as ‘The Coffin’ this hole doesn’t mean the end but it does require a carefully selected tee shot and an equally precise second shot. The old green was in fact shaped like a coffin but was redesigned in 1992.
18th Hole
This is without doubt one the most scenic holes in golf. Before you are outstanding views and surely an inspiration to land your tee shot on the green to finish with a birdie. Out of bounds on the right and four rather irritating bunkers in front of the green provide a sharp reality check but keep your nerve, select the right club and you are guaranteed to finish in glory. A memorable golf hole.
