Spring Renovation Works

Work on the Airngath's 7th hole ditch

A lovely spell of weather during late March and early April has assisted in preparing the course for the busy season ahead. Without doubt the hard work of the green staff over the winter months has contributed to the good early playing conditions. The drainage works carried out over the winter are a wise investment if we are to experience another wet summer although our Club Manager Alan Gibson assures us that we are in for a long dry summer! The putting surfaces are, as always at this time of year, in need of some good consistent grass growth to improve uniformity. The green staff have been busy with aeration, scarifying and top dressing works to ensure that, when growth does arrive, the greens will run smooth and true. Check out the monthly Green Report for more details.

An Essential Reminder

The commencement of the 2010 competition season is an ideal time to remind you of ways you can assist in ensuring your course remains in tip top condition. Good course etiquette ensures improved playing conditions not only for yourself but for all your fellow members. Replacing that divot will not only improve the look of your course but will ensure that following players will not find themselves in a horrible lie. Repairing your pitch mark on the greens reduces the risk of disease and also helps maintain smooth surfaces. Litter on the course is becoming an increasing problem. We have litter baskets at almost every tee. Please use these and ensure others do also. Green staff time being spent lifting discarded litter could be better utilised working on the playing surfaces. Traffic control measures are in place to reduce severe wear and resulting poor lies. Please follow these control measures. Those who took the time to respond to the questionnaires sent out over the winter commented that slow play was a major issue. Moving smartly round the course and being aware of the position of play of both those in front and behind will help greatly. If you fall well behind the game in front perhaps you, or someone in your group, is taking a little too long lining up that putt or looking for that lost ball. Be aware of the instructions on certain tees with regard to playing a provisional ball. An important point to remember is that, as a Member, the course is yours. Your contribution as a Member maintains your facility and we should all take pride in our course and look after what is ours.
